Kufr thoughts

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Fatwaa.com

I started having kufr thoughts when it was ramadan and there are many other symptoms that makes me think it comes from my own self…
Can it happen that intrusive kufr thoughts about Allah comes from your own self not satan , what to do if it happens ?

Answer

Wa’alaykum as Salam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu,

These thoughts are called Wasawis, which means that they are definitely ‘whispers of the devil’.

The thoughts come from the devil, but the entertaining of the thought could be from yourself. Hence, as soon as you get the thought, you should recite:

Ta’awudh (a’udhu billahi min ash-Shaytaan ir rajeem)

Hawqala (Laa Hawla wa laa quwwata illa billah)

Aamantu billah (I believe in Allah)

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best
