What Should One Do With Extra Fees Collected From a Youth Football Club?

Question:

I used to run a football club for about 10 years. Over a period of time, I collected about a thousand pounds in fees from children. I wanted to know where I could utilise this money. Maybe donate this towards a masjid or for a similar project

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

There is a principle in Islamic Jurisprudence that states “Matters are determined according to intention”1 Based on this principle the funds should be disseminated for the purpose it was collected for. If the football club was run for profit it is permissible for you to keep it. If you wish to donate it towards a masjid or other programs it will be permissible. If the football club was run as a non-profit it may be donated to other similar projects.

Only Allah knows best
