Zakat on Silver rings

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by DarulIftaBirmingham

Zakat on Silver rings

In the name of Allah, the most Beneficent, the most Merciful.

Answer

It should be understood that Zakat is only obligatory upon gold and silver jewellery. Precious stones such as pearls, rubies, and diamonds are exempt from Zakat. (Aapke Masaail p.365 v.3)

With regards to your question, Zakat on mixed articles like gold or silver mixed with other alloys are determined by the overpowering of metal. If one has gold or silver mixed with other metals and the gold or silver is more than 50% of the total article, zakat will be necessary. (Fatawa Mahmoodiyah p.71 v.3)
