Virtues of Rajab

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by DarulIftaBirmingham

Virtues of Rajab

In the name of Allah, the most Beneficent, the most Merciful.

Answer

Rajab is the seventh month in the Islamic lunar calendar. This month was regarded as one of the sacred months in which battles were prohibited in the days of the Prophet of Allah Sallallahu Alahi Wasalam.

The Prophet of Allah Sallallahu Alahi Wasalam would make the following dua when the month of Rajab comes:

“Allahuma Barik lana fi rajab wa shaban wa baligna Ramadhan.”

Imam Suyuti (RA) in his Jami Saghir from Saaiduna Hasan Basri (RA) reports that the Prophet of Allah Sallallahu Alahi Wasalam said;

“Rajab is the month of Allah, Shaban is my month and Rajab is the month of my ummah.”

From the above we can deduce that the month of Rajab does have some virtues, however, no specific way of worship has been prescribed by the shariah in this month. (Islamic Months p.49)
