Islamic nasheeds in a Indian melody is it permissible?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by DarulIftaBirmingham

Islamic nasheeds in a Indian melody is it permissible?

In the name of Allah, the most beneficent, the most merciful.

Answer

In general to perform nasheeds in any tune is permissible as long as there is nothing contrary to the teachings of Islam. However intentionally imitating the tune and melody to an Indian song will not be permissible. In a Hadith related by Imam Abu Dawud in his Sunan, The Prophet  said: “Whoever imitates a nation will be amongst them.” (Sunan Abu Dawud, no. 4031).

If by listening to these nasheeds one remembers his previous sins or the songs then it is not permissible to listen to these types of nasheeds.
