Can a woman remove her niqab or hijab in front of her father in law?

Answered according to Hanafi Fiqh by DarulIftaBirmingham

Can a woman remove her niqab or hijab in front of her father in law?

In the name of Allah, the most Beneficent, the most Merciful.

Answer

A father in law is considered to be a mahram of a woman.

Allah (SWA) says: “The wives of your sons who (spring) from your own loins” (Surah Nisa v.23)

However, regarding your question, if the father-in-law is a religious and righteous person, niqab is not necessary in front of him. However, nowadays due to fitnah, it is best that the wife dresses in a modest manner and refrains from wearing revealing outfits in front of him.
