Answer

Sayyidna Ibn Abbas reported: The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) happened to pass by two graves and said: They (their occupants) are being tormented, but they are not tormented for a grievous sin. One of them carried tales and the other did not keep himself safe from being defiled by urine. He then called for a fresh twig and split it into two parts, and planted them on each grave, and then said: Perhaps, their punishment way be mitigated as long as these twigs remain fresh.(Sahih Muslim and Sunan Tirmidhee).

The Jurists have mentioned that there are two types of impurities.

  1. Najaasat Ghaleezah ( heavy impurity)
  2. Najaasat Khafeefah  (lighter impurity)

If Najaasat Ghallezah is thin and flowing (such as urine, blood, etc), and falls on the body or clothes it will be excused if the area on which it falls is equal to or less than a fifty pence coin in extent. If the persons perform his salaah without washing it off, his salaah will be valid, but to refrain from washing it and to continue offering his salaah in this way is makrooh. If it is more than a fifty pence coin, then it will not be excused. Salaah will not be valid if it is not washed off.

If Najaasat Khafeefah falls on the body or clothing (such as the urine of halal animals), if it is less than a quarter of the area on which it fell, it will be excused, but if it is equal to or more than a quarter it will not be excused.(Baheshti Zewar pg: 44, Aap Ke Masaail pg: 82 vol: 2).

Regarding your question first of all it is Makrooh Tanzihi to urinate whilst standing without an excuse so one should try his best to sit whilst urinating if possible, and if it’s impossible in doing so then one may stand but should be very cautious and safe from being defiled by urine secondly, if any traces of urine touch any parts of the body then one only needs to wash that portion which is impure and effected.

Only Allah knows best.
