Is the Sand of the Grave of Rasulullah SAW Better Than the Arsh of Allah

Question:

“The sand in the grave of Rasulullah (SAW) is superior to the Arsh of Allah” I’m sure, you’ve come across this statement before, and I know scholars have alluded to this too.

If one chooses to disagree with this, or struggles – has he/she lost their Iman?

In the name of Allah the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

Answer:

Firstly of course a person does not lose his Emaan disagreeing with such a statement.

No doubt the blessed body of the Messenger s.a.w of Allah s.w.t is the most blessed amongst the creation of Allah ( s.w.t) as the Prophet s.a.w. himself is the best creation of Allah (s.w.t.).

In fact, we even know how huge the sanctity of a normal believer is.

It was narrated from ‘Abdullah bin Buraidah that his father said: “The Messenger of Allah [SAW] said: ‘Killing a believer is more grievous before Allah than the extinction of the whole world.’”[1]

So indeed the Prophet s.a.w. is the best of creation. However the statement “the sand surrounding the grave of Rasulullah s.a.w. being better than the Arsh of Allah (s.w.t.)”  is not from the Quran, Hadeeth, reports from the Sahaba or even said by any of the Salaf including any of the four Imams. It is a statement of a few later Scholars and as such we are not bound by it. In fact, the statement itself is incorrect. There is a clear separation between the blessed body of the messenger and the sand sounding it.

Like I said the messenger of Allah (s.w.t.) is the best creation of Allah however the throne of Allah (s.w.t.) is better than the sand surrounding the blessed Rawdah.

Only Allah Knows best.
