Can Men Braid Their Hair?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by DarulIftaBirmingham

Answered by: Imam Abdul-Malik Sheikh

Question

Is it haram to braid ur hair (for men)?

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

There is no harm in men braiding their hair. Making hair long, shortening, shaving it all off, and braiding it are all permissible.

The Messenger of Allāh (May the Peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him) said:

“Whoever has hair, should honor it” (Reported by Abu Dawud No.4163)

There is evidence that the Prophet braided his hair. Umm Hani reports that:

“The Messenger of Allāh came to Makkah and he had four braids” (Reported by Tirmidhi Hadith No.1781)

Only Allah knows best
