What Would a New Muslim Recite in Salah

Question

What would a new Muslim recite in Salah?

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer

The obligatory recitation in Salah is only one verse of the Holy Qur’an. It is wajib to recite Surah Fatiha and the equivalent of 3 short verses in any two rakats of the prayer. It is also necessary to make this necessary recitation in the first two rakats. The wajib recitation may be omitted for valid excuses, such as one being a new Muslim.  They should be told to learn a short verse for example “Qul Huwa Allahu Ahad”. (Maraqi Falah p.84, Kitabul Fiqh p.380 v.1 & Fatawa Rahimiyah p.310 v.4)

It would be necessary for them to take reasonable means to learn which is necessary (wajib) to recite. Until they learn the obligatory recitation they should recite Subhanallah, Alhamdulilah or any other praise of Allah (SWA).

Only Allah Knows Best
