Interaction with Fiancé After the Engagement

Question

I am Insha Allah getting married soon and both families have agreed and a date set.  What I would like to know is can I communicate with my potential wife now and until the day or is this forbidden?  If I can in what capacity could I talk to her and what are the conditions?

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer

An engagement is a promise between two prospective spouses or their families of marriage. The purpose of engagements is a confirmation to marry. At that stage, the boy and girl are still strangers to one another in that they cannot communicate with one another. Therefore, it will not be permissible to speak to your fiancé before the marriage is done.

If you do really need to communicate to her, then it should either be done through a third party or by an email.
