Is Hasan (RA) Part of the Khulafa Rashideen

Question

Most of Ahlus Sunnah believe that Abu Bakr, Umar, Uthman, and Ali (RA) are all the Khalifah Rashideen, but a minority believe that Hassan should also be a part of that elite list because with his rein he fulfilled the Prophet (SAW) prophecy of Caliphate.

I believe this opinion and wanted to make sure one is not sinful of this view. Plus, at the time of Ali’s (RA) death, both Muawiyah, and Hasan (RA)were given bayah. Who was the legitimate Caliphate during that period? I know Muawiyah (RA) took over shortly, but I mean right after Ali’s (RA) death.

Answer

Whether Hadhrat Hasan (may Allah Ta’ala be pleased with him) was from the Khulafaa Raashidoon or not is a question that is related to Iman and Kufr so holding an opinion which is against the majority will not be detrimental to your faith in this regard.

Narrated from Abu Sa ‘eed Al-Khudri, in the report about the building of the mosque (in Madinah), that he said: We would carry one brick at a time, but  ‘Ammaar would carry two bricks at a time. The Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) saw him and brushed the dust from him, saying: “Woe to ‘Ammaar; he will be killed by the transgressing group; he will be calling them to Paradise and they will be calling him to Hell”. ‘Ammaar said: I seek refuge with Allah from tribulation. (Al-Bukhaari 447)

From the above, we can see that Muawiyyah (may Allah Ta’ala be pleased with him) made a misjudgment in his ijtihaad because it was his group who Martyred Ammaar bin Yaaser(may Allah Ta’ala be pleased with him).
