Question

Where should women do I’tikaf? Some people say that performing I’tikaf at home is bidat and only allowed in Hanafi Madhab. There quote the verse of Surah Baqra as proof to state that women should also perform I’tikaf in Masjid.

Answer

For women, the masjid is regarded as the room she performs her prayers in the confines of her home, therefore the Hanafi jurists are of the opinion that a woman performs her I’tikaaf there also. (Fataawa Alamgiri v.1 p.211)
