Question

Assalamualaikum

Are women allowed to wear natural, nude makeup in the office especially working in an office with men? I am not talking about the red lips, blush on, eyeshades, contouring etc., but just simple one just to appear neat.

Answer:

Beautifying or adorning oneself is natural for both men and women, naturally, everybody likes to keep themselves neat and tidy. In a part of a hadith the Prophet of Allah Sallallahu Alahi Wasalam has said: “Verily, Allah likes beauty.” (Sunan Tirmizi p.20 v.2)

Makeup is a form of beautification, hence it will be permissible for women to apply it only in front of her husband and nobody else. Makeup in front of ghair mahaarim is not allowed.
