Question

Someone is waiting for his Visa which will most likely come in the next few days. He saved his money to go to Pakistan. At the moment his money goes over the Nisaab, does he have to do Qurbani even though he saved this money for his journey?

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

In the Ḥanafī madhhab, the sacrifice (Qurbānī) is obligatory (wājib) upon every sane and mature (someone who has reached puberty) Muslim who is not a traveller, who has money equal to or greater than the niṣāb (wealth equivalent to 612.36g of silver or 87.48g of gold), and who has come upon Eid al-Aḍḥā. (Raddu al-Muḥtār, 3/171). Therefore, if this person has money equal to or greater than niṣāb on the day of Eid, they will be obligated to perform a sacrifice, regardless of the intention to save money for a journey.

The person may look into performing the sacrifice in a country where the cost of the animal is lower.
