Question:

Assalamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullah

Dear Respected Mufti Saheb, if a person masturbates or ejaculates while intentionally looking at something porn, then what is the ruling.

1.) Can this person be equated to committing Zina?

2.) What will be the Kaffara?

Answer:

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

The Ulama have mentioned that masturbating for sexual pleasure is a highly discouraged act in Islam[1], even more so while watching pornographic content which is utterly Haram. As for the ruling, if ejaculation had occurred it will be wajib (compulsory) for him to take a ghusl.[2]

As for:-

1. Consider the following hadith narrated by al-Bukhaari (6243) from Abu Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with him) from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) who said: “Allah has decreed for the son of Adam his share of zina which will inevitably catch up with him. The zina of the eye is looking and the zina of the tongue is speaking. The heart wishes and longs and the private part confirms that or denies it.” Although masturbation is not equal to actual zina per se, it is still sinful as it is a lesser form.

2. While there is no specific kaffarah for masturbation, he will be obligated to make tauba(repentance) to Allah SWT.

Only Allah SWT knows best
