Tight Clothes in Salah

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by DarulIftaBirmingham

Question:

As SalaamuAlaykumwaRahmatullahiWaBarakaatuh.

I am sorry for e-mailing you another question so soon, but I needed to ask this because I am not sure if my salah is valid, or batil. I asked our local scholar who doesn’t speak English, and he said he’s not sure.

        * If one performs any salah with FITTED/TIGHT trousers where the position of the private part is pronounced then is the salah valid, or not?

        * If it’s not then is qadah required

        * If ‘Ulema differ over this then can we consider to follow the easiest position which, is that it’s valid?

I am not after references or anything, but a simple yet factual answer will suffice.

May Allah reward you in abundance.

Jazak’Allah.

Answer:

Bismillah

The awrah or private area of a man during salah is that which is between his navels to the end of the knees. For a free woman it is her whole body except her face, hands and feet.

(NurulIdah p.123)

To wear such tight fitting trousers, which reveal the shape of the private area in salah, is Makruh and against the etiquette of salah. However, if one was to pray in such state, the salah would be valid and he would not be liable to make qada.

It is noteworthy that there will always be differences of opinions amongst the scholars. One should always try to refer to their local scholar/imam for guidance and not seek ease or look for fatawa to satisfy their desires.

Only Allah knows best.
