Marriage to sons wife

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by DarulIftaBirmingham

Answered by Ustadha Umm Abdullah

Question:

Can someone marry his own sons widow?

Answer:

Bismillah

In Islam, there are certain relatives that become permanently forbidden to marry. Allah Ta’ala mentions each of these relatives in Surah Nisa’, among those, He says;

وَحَلَائِلُ أَبْنَائِكُمُ الَّذِينَ مِنْ أَصْلَابِكُمْ

“The wives of your sons who were born of you(the wives of your biological sons).”

[Surah Nisa: 23]

From the above verse, it has been established that marriage with the wife of one’s son is forbidden.

Only Allah Ta’ala knows best
