Assalamaykum. Qureey regarding Fitra of Eid. 1.Fitra is wajib or Sunnah 2.Where i should give fitra.Eg. If I am living outside India, should I give fitra where I am living or I should give in India. 3.To whome I can give this amount.Can I give it to my relatives who are poor , to educational institute , or to any charity society.

Fitrah is wajib on a person who is Muslim possessing wealth equal to nisab (prescribed limit by Shariah) and wealth which is free from daily needs. (2) Those who can receive Zakah, they can receive Fitrah as well i.e. poor and needy. If there are poor people at the place where you live, you should give it to them, or if there are much more needy in India, or there is any poor relative, then you can send it to India as well. (3) Giving Fitrah to any society and group is not right. Yes, if there is any educational institution where poor and needy students are enrolled and given food, Fitrah can be given there also. Giving Fitrah money to poor relatives (who deserve to receive Zakah) is better.
