Answer:
(Fatwa: 1372/1083/D=1431)
The holy Quran asks the women to observe purdah:
وَقُل لِّلْمُؤْمِنَاتِ يَغْضُضْنَ مِنْ أَبْصَارِهِنَّ [النور : 31]
Hence it is not lawful for women to see non-mahram males. On entering the blind sahabi the holy Prophet Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم) asked his wives to observe purdah. Thus it too is a sin for the women.
