Masbooq Reading Thanaa

Question:

When someone joins Salaah in the second rakaat:

  1. Does he have to read thanaa if the imam is engaged in qiraat or if the imam is not?
  2. If he has to read thanaa, will he have to repeat it when he stands up after the imam makes salam?
