If I cannot perform sajdah at all due to an injured eye, how do I perform salah?

If I cannot perform sajdah at all due to an injured eye, how do I perform salah?

Answer:

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

It is one of the miracles of Islam that we have been taught every minute aspect of our deen.  There is not a single situation a Muslim will find himself in which he cannot worship Allah Ta’ala.  A Muslim has the capacity to worship Allah with every breath and step.

Once the disbelievers were scoffing, ridiculing and mocking Sayyiduna Salman al-Farasi radiallahu anhu at the fact that the Prophet salallahu alaihi wasallam had taught them how to relieve themselves.  Sayyiduna Salman responded with a sense of honour saying,

“Indeed!  He has taught us not to face the Qiblah, not to use our right hands and not use less than three stones which do not consist of droppings or bones.”[i] (Ibn Majah)

A slave of Allah’s happiness and nourishment is the worship of Almighty Allah.  He humbles himself in front of the Majesty and Might of Allah.  He is cognisant of the Grandeur and Royalty of the Lord of the Heavens and the Earth.  Whether the servant of Allah is happy or sad, wealthy or poor, healthy or ill, he constantly resorts to the fort of the worship of Almighty Allah.

If a person cannot perform prostration (sajdah) due to an injury, then he can perform every salah sitting down until he recovers.  He does not have to stand up at all.  He will perform ruku’ and sajdah by gesturing.  The gesture for sajdah will be lower than that of ruku’.[ii]

And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best
