Question:
Is it permissible to eat cuttlefish?
Answer:
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
Cuttlefish are marine animals of the order Sepiida. They belong to the class Cephalopoda (which also includes squid, octopuses, and nautiluses). Despite their name, cuttlefish are not fish but molluscs.[1]
As a principle, only fish are permissible for consumption from the marine creatures. Therefore, it is not permissible to eat cuttlesfish.[2]

(وَحَلَّ الْجَرَادُ) وَإِنْ مَاتَ حَتْفَ أَنْفِهِ، بِخِلَافِ السَّمَكِ (وَأَنْوَاعُ السَّمَكِ بِلَا ذَكَاةٍ) (الدر المختار من نسخة رد المحتار ج 6 ص 307 أيج أيم سعيد)
وَأما دواب الْبَحْر فانها مُحرمَة سوى السّمك بأجناسها (النتف في الفتاوى ص 232 دار الفرقان)
