What duas should be read before turning for Salam and between the two sajdahs?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by AskOurImam.com

Salam, can you please tell me if I can make dua whilst in Salaah before making salaam. Can you tell me what to read between the Sajdas? Can you read this in Fardh Salaah? JazakAllah

Answer:

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

  1. In principle, after having recited tashahhud and blessing on Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), it is Sunnah for a person to make dua with any of the supplications from the Qur`an and Sunnah[1]. However, you may specifically make any of the following narrated supplications before making salam[2]:

اللهم اني ظلمت نفسي ظلما كثيرا وانه لا يغفر الذنوب إلا أنت فاغفرلي مغفرة من عندك وارحمني انك أنت الغفور الرحيم

Transliteration: Allahumma Innee Zalamtu nafsee Zulman Katheeran wa innahu laa yaghfiruz zunooba illa anta faghfir lee maghfiratan min indika warhamnee innaka antal-ghafoor ur-raheem

Translation: Oh Allah, I have indeed wronged myself and it is only You who pardons sins. Forgive me my sins from you and bestow your mercy upon me. Verily You are the all-Forgiving all-Merciful.

Transliteration: Allahumma innee as`aluka minal khayri kullihi ma alimtu minhu wa maa a`lam wa auoozubika minash shari kullihi maa alimtu minhu wa maa lam a`lam

Translation: Oh Allah, I ask you for all that which is good which I know of and which I am unaware of. And I seek refuge in You from all that which is evil which I know of and which I am unaware of.

Transliteration: Allahumma innee a`oozu bika min azaabi jahannama wamin azaabil qabri wamin fitnatil mahya wal mamaati wamin sharri fitnatil maseehid dajjal

Translation: Oh Allah, Verily, I seek refuge in You from the punishment of Hellfire, the punishment of the grave, from the trial of living and dying, and from the evil of the trial of Dajjal thefalse Messiah

Transliteration: Allahumma innee as`aluka ya Allah al-Ahad as-Samad lam yalid walam yoolad walam yakullahu kufuwan ahad an taghfiralee zunoobee innaka antal ghafoorur Raheem

Translation: Oh Allah, I ask You, Oh Allah, The One, The Absolute, who neither has any children, nor any parents, and who there is none like unto Him, forgive me my sins. Verily, You are the All-Forgiving the All-Merciful.

  1. It is not Sunnah to read any dua between the two Sajdas[5] in Fardh Salaah. However, a person who is either praying voluntary prayers, or praying the Fardh salah individually, or following an Imam in Fardh prayer and has enough time to read, may preferably[6] recite any of the following between two Sajdahs[7]:

اللهم اغفر لي وارحمني وعافني واهدني وارزقني[8]

Transliteration: Allahummagh firlee warhamnee wa aafinee wahdinee warzuqnee

Translation: Oh Allah, forgive me, and bestow your mercy upon me, bless me with good health, guide me and provide me with sustenance

Or simply:

Transliteration: Rabbigh firlee

Translation: Oh my Lord, forgive me

And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best
