Rewards for Zikr

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askmufti.co.za
Q: What are the rewards of zikr after the fajr and asr salaah and is it sunnah or fardh?

A: To make Zikr after Fajr and Asr is Sunnah, not Fardh. There are great rewards mentioned for Zikr during these two times. We mention some Ahaadeeth below.

Rasoolullah Sallallaahu Alayhi wa Sallam) said : “For me to sit with a group of people making the Zikr of Allah from after Fajr to sunrise is greater that setting free four slaves from the progeny of Ismail (Alayhis Salaam).” Another narration states: “To sit with a group of people making Zikr from after Asr to sunset is more dearer to me than the entire world and whatever it contains.”
(Kanzul-Ummaal, vol.1 p. 420)

In yet another Hadeeth it appears: “One who offers Fajr Salaah and remains seated in his place making the Zikr of Allah, then offers two Rakaats (Ishraaq) Salaah, gets the reward of a complete Hajj and Umrah.” (Al-Azhkaar of Imam Nawawi).
