Is it permissible to uncover the face before brothers in law, cousins and extended family?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

I have a question regarding parda. Is it true that face parda is different for hanafi madhab than from the Malaki, Shafi, Humbali madhab. I have one sister who does face parda but not from her brother in laws, cousins and other extending families.

When she goes to weddings she demands they provide parda for her or she will not go. So when she gets questioned about why she has double standard as she should also do face parda from her cousins, brother in law extending families men. She replies that some ulemas have told her that in hanafi madhab you don’t have to do face parda as it is not faraiz? Can you please clarify this for me.

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

In order for us to correctly understand the issue, kindly explain:

  • What type of pardah is the woman in question requesting for in weddings?
  • If according to the woman`s understanding the face pardah is not necessary why does she then wear a pardah?
  • What is the difference if she does not wear a pardah in front of ghayr mahram family members?

Explain in detail so we could understand the core of your question.

And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best
