Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

If one receives a gift in the form of sheep and one would like to use this in lieu of Qurbani, is this permissible?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

It is permissible for one to slaughter a gifted sheep for Qurbani[1] on condition that one makes the intention for Qurbani.[2]
