. Is it permissible to perform a Sajdah out of humliation after namaz and dua are completed?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

InshAllah, I pray all is well. It is my habit to give a Sajdah in humiliation after I have completed my Namaz (i.e. Salat ) and  Dua. During the Sajdah I read the Kalima. Is it permissible to perform a Sajdah out of humliation after namaz and dua are completed? Thank you so much for your assistance.

Answer

In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Assalaamu `alaykum waRahmatullahi Wabarakatuh

The Fuqaha [Jurists] have not mentioned anything about sajdah of humiliation, However it is Makrooh [Disliked] to make any type of sajdah after salaah because people consider this to be a sunnat or a waajib. In principle, every permissible act which leads to people considering it as a sunnat or waajib will become makrooh.

If a person wishes to express gratitude or demonstrate servitude to Allah Ta’ala, the best manner would be to perform two rakaats of salaatul shukr to Allah Ta’ala. If one wishes only to make a sajdah of shukr [gratitude]; he may do so but not after Fardh salaah. It is possible that you intended sajdah of  humility [humbleness] and not humiliation [disgrace].

And Allah knows best
