Is the income earned from a secondary company permissible?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

Assalamualikum Mufti Sab

I am employed by a company. recently my friend had started a new company which also does similar work as my parent company.at the time of starting the company i promised i will help in possible way and I am working few hours a week for his company, and  i earn money for this work from my friend.

This is the small paragraph from my work contract with my parent company”The employee shall devote all work efforts exclusively to the company and the furtherence of its interests.Any engagement in additional activities for personal benift or for others benifit or any direct or indirect participation in other enterprises of any kind requires the prior written consent of the company”

I am doing this work without the knowledge of my parent company.

my question is 1) Is my additional earning Halal or Haram. 2) If haram what shall I do with the extra money I already earned and how should i convince my friend.

Jazakallah

Answer

Answer:

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

1. The income which you earned from your friends company is Halaal since you are doing work in your personal time and it does not negatively impact your performance at work.

2. There is no need to dispose of the income as it is Halaal.

And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best
