Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

In my current job on top of my basic salary, I have additional benefits that I am entitled to. What is the Shariah ruling on accepting the following benefits? a). Free medical insurance – I am eligible for this scheme in the eventuality of any illness? b). A non-contributory pension scheme / pension supplement ? the company contributes up to a certain percentage of my annual salary to a pension scheme or I am paid a certain percentage of my annual salary as a cash pension supplement? c). Free life cover ? The company provides free life cover to my dependants if I was to die before the age of 65 (a one off payment to any named dependants up to 4 times the salary if I die before the age of 65)? d). Free Permanent Health Insurance – The company provide free cover to continue paying a major proportion of my salary if for some reason I was away from work for a long period of time (major accident, long term illness etc?)? (Please note that all the benefits provided are run by conventional insurance and pension companies on behalf of my firm)

Answer

We have studied your question and we notice that most, if not all, of the services are free.

If so, then it is permissible to accept these schemes.
