Should my wife and I perform Qasr Salaah?

Assalamualaikum Muftiyan-e-kiraam,

I will be commencing on a 40days Masturaat Jama’at from Mumbai to Delhi. Eventually, as is with every Tablighi Jama’at, I will stay in Masjids and my wife at a Muqeem’s home for 2-3days, then we will be changing home and Masjid again at this frequency consequetively.

Shall I and my wife pray Kasr or Complete namaz, as our complete stay in the City limits will be more than 35 days, but never at a particular home, rather we will keep changing houses and Masjids every 2-3 days.

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

May Allah Ta’ala accept your noble efforts.

In principle, if a person undertakes a journey of 78 kilometers, he will be a Musafir (traveller) and will perform Qasr Salaah as long as he intends to remain in the place of travel for lesser than 15 nights. He will become a Musafir from the time he exits the boundaries of his suburb.

If you will not be staying in any particular suburb of Delhi for 15 nights or more during the 40 days, then you will be a Musafir. Accordingly, you will perform Qasr Salaah.
