Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

Salaam,

I wanted to know if V energetic drink and redbull is halal as I have been told that it contains bulls sperm or semen. Can you find out if this is true and that it is permissible to drink.

Jazaakallah

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Brother in Islam,

According to our information as referred to in the footnotes, Red bull and V energy drink do not contain bull sperm or semen.[i] [ii] While these drinks are displayed as suitable for vegetarians, we are unable to comment on the halal status of these drinks as that depends on the ingredients present in the drinks. It is also not appropriate to issue a standard ruling for any specific energy drink as ingredients may differ based on different countries.[iii] Therefore, you should consult a reliable halal certifying body in your country to advise you accordingly.

It should also be noted that energy drinks do pose a health risk.[iv] Consult a doctor for advice on that.

And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best

[i] Many people bet it comes from some delicate parts of the strongest and most potent bulls in the world, but the truth is that the taurine in Red Bull is produced synthetically by pharmaceutical companies, which guarantees highest quality standards.

Taurine is not derived from animals.

[ii] This is an extract from the official website of V energy drink:

Is Taurine from animal origin?

In short: No.

In slightly lengthier description: The taurine used in V is a synthetic version not from animal origin and therefore makes V suitable for vegetarians.
