Modesty and Shame

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

is eating ass halal?

Is it permissible for a man to lick his wife’s anus? The outside? How about the inside?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Hayaa (modesty) is a hall mark of every Mu’min. Hayaa is part of Imaan and a believer will always have to govern himself/herself to acts of Hayaa and modesty.

Shame and modesty is emphasized in Shariah. It is one of the core values of Islam.

It encourages its followers to be modest and not have the instincts of animals. Modesty is one of the things which distinguish a human being from an animal.

Consider the following Ahadeeth on modesty and shame:

(1)  Nabi (Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam) said:

إذا لم تستحي فافعل ما شئت

“If you do not have shame, do as you wish”.

(Saheeh Al-Bukhari, Kitaabu Ahaadeethil-Ambiyaa))

(2)  Nabi (Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam) said:

فإن الحياء من الإيمان

“Hayaa (modesty) is part of Faith”

(Saheeh Al-Bukhari, Kitaabul Imaan)

(3)   Nabi (Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam) said:

قال الحياء خيرٌ كله أو قال الحياء كله خير

“Hayaa (modesty) is only goodness”

(Saheeh Muslim, Kitaabul Imaan)

(4)  Nabi (Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam) said:

الحياء والإيمان قرناء جميعا فإذا رفع أحدهما رفع الآخر

“Hayaa (modesty) and Eemaan are partners, if anyone of them is removed, then the other is also removed”

(Al-Adab Al-Mufrad)

(5)  Nabi (Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam) said:

الإيمان بضع وسبعون أو بضع وستون شعبة فأفضلها قول لا إله إلا الله وأدناها إماطة الأذى عن الطريق والحياء شعبة من الإيمان

“ Eeman consists of 70 /60 ought branches, the highest is to say La Ilaha Illallah, and the lowest is removal of a harmful object from the road and Hayaa (modesty) is a branch of Imaan’’

(Saheeh Muslim, Kitaabul Imaan)

The above Ahadeeth indicate the importance of Hayaa and modesty in Islam.

The need for intimacy between spouses is natural.  However, it should be fulfilled with shame, modesty and dignity.  Whilst foreplay is permissible, it is not appropriate and is against shame and modesty for a person to do any of the things that you have stated.

In Islam, a man may fulfil his intimate needs only with her legitimate wife.

Furthermore, a woman should be respected and not used merely as an object of sex.

There is more to being with one’s wife then merely fulfilling one’s lust and desire.

And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best
