Thank you for taking the time to answer my question. My wife wanted to know if she has to wear a hijab in front of my father (her father in law); as we read somewhere that father in laws are mahram so we weren’t sure about that. Any guidance would be much appreciated.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
In principle, the father in law is a mahram for his daughter in law[i].
A mahram is he with who marriage is permanently prohibited.
A woman does not have to observe hijab in front of her father in law. However, a daughter in law should dress in a modest way in front of her father in law especially in these times when immorality is common.
