Your regret for purposefully making a blasphemous statement is a clear sign of your Iman

I really need your help, as I know I am surely going to Hell, without a doubt. I am a girl who has just turned 14, and I’ve done something very, very bad. I can’t stop crying. I am never going to Jannah. I am really scared. I have committed blasphemy. I have insulted my Lord! I don’t know why I did it. It just slipped out of my mouth. I feel terribly guilty. They were very explicit phrases I said. I don’t think Allah can forgive me. I don’t know what to do. Can blasphemy be forgiven if the person truly repents? I am very frightened. Please help me. I do not know what I should do. It was a very inappropriate phrase. I just blurted it out. I am so scared. It was a very bad thing I said. Please, can Allah forgive a blasphemer if they truly repent? I have restated my shahadah. What should I do to calm myself and get rid of this horror and fear? I really need your help, I do not think Allah will forgive such sin, especially since I said such things on purpose. I said it on purpose!!! I am in depair, please help me…

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Your regret for purposefully making a blasphemous statement is a clear sign of your Iman. If you did not have Iman, you would not care. You would not be perturbed. Your Iman is rejecting your mistake and spurred you to repent. You did so sincerely and also renewed your Iman. You have acted correctly.

Further, remember shaytan is our avowed enemy. He attacks in various ways. He first attacked you by making the blasphemous statement. Now again after you have repented, he attacked you again by creating despair in you.

You got caught by Shaytaan the first time by making the statement. Now guard yourself from the trick and trap of shaytan. Allah Ta`ala orders us never to despair in His mercy. Allah Says:

Translation

O My bondsmen (servants) who have wronged their souls! (by committing kufr or other sins). Never lose hope of Allah’s mercy (so do not abstain from seeking forgiveness thinking that you will not be forgiven), Verily, Allah forgives all sins. Undoubtedly, he is the Most Forgiving the Most Merciful.

To be despondent of the mercy of Allah is also a type of kufr. Shaytan is now leading you from one form of kufr to another form of kufr. Guard yourself against this plot of shaytan. You made a mistake. You regretted it and repented. Allah promises forgiveness for those that repent. Why not trust what Allah says and why give in to the whispers of shaytan.

Turn your mind from negativity to positivity. Be happy Allah guided you to make tawba and be amongst those that are in the mercy of Allah. A person who repents is the beloved of Allah.

مختصر صحيح الإمام البخاري (1/ 109)

إِنَّ اللَّهَ يُحِبُّ التَّوَّابِينَ

Translation

“Verily Allah loves those that repent”

Be rest assured that if you are sincere in your repentance you are now the beloved of Allah. You are not rejected at all. Look forward to getting closer to Allah and earning Jannah.

And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best
