I have a question, which I’m rather shy to ask but I suppose it’s best that I do. I’m confused about what time(s), in ramadhan, the fast begins, some people have told me it starts at sunrise i.e. the end of the period of time in which fajr can be prayed in, others have told me that one has to stop eating before fajr time commences, and others tell me I should rely on the method of being able to differentiate a black thread form a light one (which is unreliable in my locality due to light polution). Please shed some light on this for me,
Walaikum assalam wa rahmatullah,
I pray that this finds you well, and in the best of health and spirits. May Allah grant you all good and success in this life and the next.
There is scholarly consensus that fasting begins when Fajr time enters. What is meant by the ‘white thread’ is the break of dawn, as authentically established from the sunna of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).
And Allah alone gives success.
