Silver pots

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Qibla.com

Answered by Shaykh Abdurrahman ibn Yusuf Mangera

Is it haram to take milk from a silver pot?

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Assalamu alaykum

It is prohibitively disliked [makruh tahrimi] to drink milk from a silver or gold bowl, cup etc (Radd al-Muhtar ma’a al-Durr al-Mukhtar 5:217).

This impermissibility pertains to men and women, even though women are permitted to adorn themselves with silver or gold jewelry.

The Messenger of Allah (upon him be peace) said, “Do not drink from silver or gold utensils, do not eat in plates made from them, for they are for them (disbelievers) in this world and for us in the hereafter. (Bukhari and Muslim from Hudhyfah (may Allah be pleased with him).

The jurists however have considered it permissible to store milk, water, etc., in silver or gold ware (many time for medicinal purposes), but not to drink directly from them, but to scoop them into another vessel for using them (See Radd al-Muhtar 5:217).

And Allah knows best.

Wassalam

Abdurrahman ibn Yusuf
