Are gold pens allowed for women?

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Bismi Allah alRahman alRahim

Gold and silver are allowed to be used by women for beautification purposes, such as jewelry or gold cloth. It is prohibitively disliked (karahah tahrimiyah) and sinful for both men and women to use gold or silver for instrumental purposes, which includes watches, pens, mirrors, eating and drinking utensils, etc., as stated in the Hashiya of Ibn Abidin (section of al-hazr wal-ibaha) as well as in Nahlawi’s al-Hazr wal-Ibaha.

The key word to keep in mind here is ‘instrument’ – which is that which serves as a means, agent, or tool. Hence, a watch, for example, though also used for beautification, is mainly used as an instrument to tell time and is therefore unlawful for both men and women.

And Allah knows best.
