1- Does one have to make sajda sahw in a fard prayer where one has recited the basmala after the fatiha by mistake in the 3rd or 4th rakah?
2- Does one have to make sajda sahw if one has recited more than the at tahiyyat (ie Allahuma salli ala Muhammad…) in the first sitting of a 3 or 4 rakat prayer?
Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullah,
1- If one recites a sura after the Fatiha in the third or four rakats of an obligatory (fard) prayer, you have done something that is somewhat disliked (makruh tanzihan), and no forgetfulness prostration is needed, because it is only needed if a necessary (wajib) action is omitted.
However, in a non-obligatory (non-fard) prayer, it is necessary (wajib) to recite both the Fatiha and a sura (or the equivalent of 3 short verses) in all rakats of the prayer. If this is forgetfully left, a forgetfulness prostration is necessary. [Both rulings from Ibn Abidin’s Hashiya.]
2- It is necessary to perform forgetfulness prostrations if one unduly delayed getting up after the first tashahhud–such that one was able to recite up to “Allahumma salli `ala Muhammadin wa Aali Muhammad” in one’s sending of blessings. (Ibn Abidin, Radd al-Muhtar; Shurunbulali, Maraqi al-Falah)
And Allah alone gives success.
