One reason Allah Ta’ala delays answering du’as

What is the authenticity of the Hadith that Allah Ta’ala delays answering du’as because He loves the voice of the one making the du’a?

Answer

Sayyiduna Jabir (radiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:

‘When a person whom Allah Ta’ala loves makes du’a, Allah Ta’ala says to Jibrail (‘alayhis salam): ‘Fulfill my servant’s wishes, but delay for a while for I love to continue hearing his voice’…

(Tabarani in Al Mu’jamul Awsat, Hadith: 8442 and Kitabud Du’a, Hadith: 87)

The above Hadith is very weak and not suitable to quote.

(Majma’uz Zawaid, vol. 10 pg. 151)

One should rather quote the following weak narration:

Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (radiyalahu ‘anhu) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:

Allah Ta’ala says to the Angels:

‘Go to my servant and place certain calamities on him. The Angels comply. This person then praises Allah (despite the calamities). The Angels then go back to Allah and say: ‘O our Rabb, we have placed those calamities on him just as you have ordered. Allah Ta’ala says: Return/ Go away for I love hearing his voice’

(Tabarani in Al Mu’jamul Kabir, Hadith: 7697. Majma’uz Zawaid, vol. 8 pg. 116. Also see Al Mughni ‘An Hamlil Asfar, Hadith: 1005 )

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best
