Friday prayer following an Imam not from the Hanafi Madhab with fewer that 40 people

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Qibla.com

Answered by Shaykh Faraz Rabbani

I pray Friday prayers in a prayer room in the hospital. If the Imam of the prayer does not follow the Hanafi madhab and there are less than 40 people present, then should I repeat the prayer as Dhur?

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Walaikum assalam wa rahmatullah,

I pray that this finds you well, and in the best of health and spirits. May Allah grant you all good and success in this life and the next.

No, in such a case one would not repeat the prayer. In the Shafi`i school there are followable positions that Friday prayer can be performed with less than 40 resident males, and there is leeway in other schools. Or the imam may be following the Hanafi school itself in such a case. Given these possibilities, the fuqaha state that one would not perform Zuhr after Friday prayer in a case such as the one you mentioned.

And Allah alone gives success.
