Is it acceptable in Islam to receive gifts and sweets from a non-Muslim company on their festival?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Jamia Binoria
Assalamu Alaikum Wa Rahmathullahi Wa Barakathuhu

My name is Basharat Shafeeque. I am working in Trading Co. Abu Dhabi Base Co owned by Non Muslim (Hindu). On their Diwali Festival they are giving to Staff sweets and some gifts (cash). Is that acceptable in Islam and how about to eat their sweets? Thanks and Regards.

الجواب حامدا و مصلیا

It is not allowed for a Muslim to receive gifts and presents pertaining to Diwali or any other particular religious festival from a Hindu. However in normal circumstances without any religious festival if he helps a Muslim or offers gifts, nothing is wrong in accepting but it is necessary to refrain from having intimate connection with him.

Allah knows best.
