Q. With respect to a person taking shares in an animal for Qurbani, is it permissible for it to be done by either 1, 3, 5 or 7 people or it must be done by 7 persons only, and if 1 person is performing Qurbani for himself he should have seven names on whom the Qurbani is offered?
A. In a large animal, the maximum amount of shares that can be taken are seven. That is, only up to seven people can share in a large animal. This means that any amount of people less than seven can share from it. This amount can be 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 – it does not have to be in odd numbers. Even one person can sacrifice a large animal for himself. In this case, there is no requirement to have seven names on whom the Qurbani is offered.
And Allah knows best.
