How should we protect the unusable old Qur’an Majeed?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Jamia Binoria

Assalamu Alaikum
How should we protect the unusable old Qur’an Majeed or other sacred books/pages etc., without being disgraced? Apart form this, in Karachi most people use to throw this type of sacred pages from the Neti Jeti bridge to water which normally gather in dirty places. Isn’t it disgracing of these sacred pages and what should we do in this regard? I hope that your institution can, not only make proper arrangements to make people understand this matter but also to make them realize what they should do to compensate for all the mistakes done so far. No doubt, the multitude of the people are religiously become victims of bad deeds but, even then, they have an inflinching aspiring affection with Qur’an Shareef. If we can make the people active in this matter they will come forward to render their assistance under yourselves in many ways. In my view your institution too can enlighten a large number of general public about this matter perhaps through your more effective voice alongwith its truthfulness.

The best way of protecting such damaged sacred papers is to wrap them in a clean cloth and bury in a grave like hole in the ground. If there is no fear of contempt or disgrace in putting it in the mid ocean, it could also be done so. And there is permission in Shari’a as well to do so. Anyhow, we do not have any arrangement in common level for this purpose whereas other welfare organizations such as Alamgiri Welfare Trust etc. do such arrangements. May contact them also in this regard.
