Thoughts and feelings from Allah Ta’ala

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Fatwaa.com

Are unwanted thoughts and feelings from Allah Ta’ala?

Answer

Wa’alaykum as Salam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu,

It is our belief that both, good and bad, comes from Allāh ﷻ.

However, Allāh ﷻ uses Shayṭān, our carnal desires, and other elements to put us through various tests and trials.

Allāh ﷻ says:

Do people think once they say, “We believe,” that they will be left without being put to the test? [Al-Qur’ān 29:2]

The test in terms of unwanted thoughts and feelings is whether one would act upon them or not. For as long as one does not act upon them, one would not be sinful.

Allāh ﷻ, being the Most-Merciful has also supplied us with the solutions to the tests that we face in this regard; hence, if one gets any unwanted feelings and thoughts then immediately:

  • Seek refuge in Allāh ﷻ from oneself and from Shayṭān.
  • Do not entertain such thoughts and feelings.
  • Divert your attention.
  • Focus on pleasing Allāh ﷻ.
  • Anticipate the reward from Allāh ﷻ from not acting upon such.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best
