If a Muslim Receives Alcohol as a Gift From His Company

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by DarulIftaBirmingham

Question

If my company has sent me alcohol as a gift for Christmas, do I return the gift, put it down the drain or give it to someone who drinks?

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

Alcohol is prohibited in the Quran and Hadith. The following Hadith shows the severity of its prohibition.

The Prophet of Allah Sallallahu Alahi Wasalam said: Allah has cursed wine, its drinker, its server, its seller, its buyer, its presser, the one for whom it is pressed, the one who conveys it, and the one to whom it is conveyed. (Sunan Tirmidhi, Sunan Abu Dawud, and Sunan Ibn Majah)

It will be necessary for one to dispose of the alcohol by spilling it down the drain.

Only Allah knows best.
