Is the Usage of Sex Toys Permissible During Intercourse?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Seekersguidance.org
Question:
Is the usage of sex toys permissible during intercourse?
Answer:
Dear questioner,
Thank you for your important question.
May Allah, Most High reward you for your desire to increase in knowledge.
Intimacy with one’s spouse is an integral part of marriage. Both the husband and wife should strive to fulfill the desires of each other during intercourse.
If the fulfillment of desire is found to be difficult or not possible with one’s natural body parts, then the usage of sex toys is permissible with the following conditions:
The spouse must be the one to use it on their partner. It is impermissible for one to use the sex toy on themselves as this resembles masturbation which is prohibited.

It must be understood by both spouses that a sex toy is a secondary form of stimulation. If one becomes accustomed or habituated to using a sex toy, they will become disinclined to natural climaxing.

The sexy toy must not cause either spouse any harm and should only be used with consent.

[Ibn Abidin, al-Hashiya]
Neither spouse must feel ashamed when using sex toys. Rather, the intention should be to fulfill the desire in a manner that Allah, Most High is pleased with.

The Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) said:

“‘Having intercourse (with one’s spouse) is a charity.’ They said, ‘O Messenger of Allah if one of us fulfills his desire, is there a reward in that?’ He said, ‘Do you not see that if he does it in a prohibited way he will have the burden of sin? So if he does it in a permissible way, he will have a reward for that.’”

[Muslim, al-Sahih]
