Keeping any name as password is permissible?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Fatwaa.com

I kept the word Gallickgun as my password
It is a word used in an anime series as considered as a power blast weapon by a character( Vegeta) who is involved in shirk
But I just kept the password for the name of it
Not believing in any of the shirk part
Is it a sin on me
If so , then what type of sin is it?

Answer

Wa’alaykum as Salam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu,

The fact that you are asking the question already shows that your heart is not comfortable with keeping this type of a password. The Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said:

“الإثم : ما حاك في نفسك ” (رواه مسلم)

“A sin is that which plays on your conscious.”

In another narration, the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said:

والإثم ما حاك في صدرك وإن أفتاك عنه الناس (أخرجه أحمد)

“A sin is that which makes you uncomfortable, even if people give you a verdict to the contrary.”

Therefore, you should rather keep a password which will not cause you to have any doubts.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best
