Assalamu-alaikum, I would like to know the Islamic rulings on ‘House Gecko'(maybe چھپکلی in Urdu). It is usually seen on house wall. I heard from a source that “Killing Gecko is not only permissible but also an act of getting reward (Sawab)”.
Is that true? If so, than what is the Wisdom (hikmaat) behind it? Is there any true stories regarding Gecko with prophet Ibrahim (AS) and Rasulullah (pbuh) ? Please explain with authentic quotations from Quran/Hadith/Reliable Fiqh books.
Zazakallahu khairan,
الجواب حامدا و مصلیا
From the following Narrations of Blessed Ahadees, it is clearly found that Chameleon, in which includes house gecko as well, is a mischievous and harmful creature. When Hadhrath Ibraheem Alaihis Salam was hurled into fire all the creatures tried to their capacity to extinguish it except for chameleon which was in action to aggravate it further. This is the reason why it is proved in Ahadees that it is Mustahsan and Mandoob (preferable) to kill it.
