Suffering from OCD

Question

My question is , Recently i got married , however i have been having unwanted intrusive thoughts about the status of my nikkah, because i keep getting a thought if i say something it will be a kinayah word. These thoughts extend to normal words and conversation, for example if i say “how are you” to anyone, or even Asalamualaykum , i get an overwhelming thought this is a kinaya word i am saying, then i get a anxious feeling in my heart. I even get scared to type numbers, because i start thinking this is the amount of T you are issuing. I constantly avoid talking to anyone because i am scared these thoughts will come, they stay with me the whole day. After consulting a Clinical psychologist, she was very confident i have OCD religiosity. Hence the unwelcomed thoughts and fears etc.

These thoughts come in salaah , like when i say tasbeeh etc. When i recite quran, when i say thing in three’s.

Because of these overwhelming thoughts i keep reaffirming my intention whenever i speak . On one occasion i had to give a collegue some items, before giving it i said to wanted to say to myself “i am only  intending to give 2 swabs” however after the number 2 , i got a whisper of a sareeh word. Now i am scared because i am trying to see if i said it with any noise ,whisper or was it in my head. I just can not figure it out. If i am wrong in my judgement will i be held accountable? I am in genuine doubt.

^ what is the ruling in such a scenario?

Due to my doubtful nature I asked my wife to make dua that Allah protects us from Zina. Is this kinaya?

These thoughts come Whilst i speak Sometimes before I speak aswell. They always come before i type a number. To the point that now i know they will come when I type a number , so i start praying surah an nass and tawwudh.

Do these thoughts and feelings have any impact on my nikkah?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Brother in Islam,

May Almighty Allah alleviate the predicament you are faced with. Aameen.

Brother, this life is filled with challenges and adversities. Every individual faces his/her own challenges. Almighty Allah has promised to test us in this world with various things. It is natural to feel anxious and experience grief.

A divorce will only take place if the words are mentioned with the intention of divorce. Your Nikaah is intact. The above scenarios do not affect your Nikaah.

We advise you not to ponder and build on these thoughts, as you will be aiding the Shaytaan in fulfilling his mission. Do not allow the whispers of Shaytaan to intimidate you.

Hereunder are some ways to combat the whisperings of Shaytaan:

  • Constantly recite the undermentioned supplications/duas :

رَبِّ أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ هَمَزَاتِ الشَّيَاطِينِ وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ رَبِّ أَنْ يَحْضُرُونِ

Translation: O Allah! I seek your protection from the evil whisperings of the Shaytaan, and, O my Rabb, I seek Your protection that they (the Shaytaan) approach me (because they always approach with evil).’”

(Surah Al-Mu’minoon, Verses 97-98)

اَللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْ وَسَاوِسَ قلبي خَشْيَتَكَ وذِكْرَكَ واجْعَلْ همتي وهَوَايَ فِيْمَا تُحِبُّ وتَرْضَى

Translation: “O Allah! Make Your fear and remembrance the obsession of my mind and divert my will and courage to the performance of deeds that please You.”

لا حول ولا قوة الا بالله

Translation: There is no power to neither do any good nor prevent any evil except in Allah

  • Recite the Ta’awwudh as much as possible.
  • Recite Surah Al-Falaq and Surah Al-Naas
  • Implore Allah Taalah in Du’aa to alleviate you from your predicament. Du’aa is the most powerful weapon of the believer.
  • Read the book “Combating the whisperings of Shaytaan” by Hadhrat Moulana Yunus Patel Saheb (Rahimahullah).

Our beloved Ustaadh Hadhrat Mufti Ebrahim Desai Saheb Hafidhaullah advises:

When you are on a highway filled with smoke that obscures the road, you will not worry to remove the smoke. You will focus on the road and drive through the smoke. You will pay attention on the road and not at the smoke.

The wasaawis are like the smoke. Ignore the wasaawis and work through them even though your work might feel obscured. Do not get caught up with the tricks of Shaytaan.

In addition to this, seek medical assistance for your condition and undergo the prescribed treatment. InshaAllah, Allah will relieve you of this situation.

And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best
